Every March, when the Major League Baseball (MLB) season starts, baseball fans everywhere have high hopes for their teams, believing that this could be the year. For Boston Red Sox fans, including myself, that optimism has become an annual ritual—one that often fades by the time October rolls around. 

On Oct. 7, 2025, the New York Rangers (NYR) played their first game of the regular season. Coming off four losses and two wins in the preseason, fans are concerned that there has been no change compared to last season's disappointing performance.

Last week here at The Lamron, I analyzed and predicted both American League (AL) wild-card series. I am relieved to say that my predictions came true as both the Tigers and Yankees advanced past their rivals in three games each. However, this is no time for celebration, as the playoffs are still ongoing.

On Oct. 1, 2025, the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) released the 2025-26 schedule, with games set to start on Friday, Nov. 21. This schedule boasts 120 total games, which is up from 90 games last season and 72 games in its inaugural season.

In every sport, there are the greats, players who have etched their name into the history of their respective game. One great belonging to the National Hockey League (NHL), goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, bid his final farewell in a preseason game on Sept. 27, 2025.

On Sept. 19, 2025, Sadie Schreiner sued the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) as well as SUNY Geneseo’s Head Track and Field/Assistant Cross Country Coach, Christopher Popovici, and the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation, Dani Drews, alleging the three parties worked together to illegally bar Schreiner from competing.

On Wednesday Sept. 24, the Geneseo women's tennis team took their third straight Empire 8 win over the Houghton Highlanders. They beat the Highlanders 6-1, and the win pushed them to a conference record of 3-1 and 4-2 overall. The Knights won all their doubles and only dropped one singles match. 

Since last season's disastrous end, with the New York Rangers (NYR) missing out on the postseason, a lot of changes have been made to the team. The NYR finished the 2024-25 season with a record of 39-36-7, compared to the 55-23-4 Presidents' Trophy run in the 2023-24 season. 

Baseball fans can finally take a deep breath as we move into October, unless you are a fan of a team that made it to the postseason field. As the 2025 Major League Baseball (MLB) postseason is set to begin, what better time to make a fool of myself with some impromptu predictions? 

Following the end of the 2024-25 season, the PWHL announced that it would be adding two new teams to the league in Vancouver and Seattle.The addition of these two teams marks the beginning of a sure-to-be-successful expansion for the PWHL. 

On Sunday afternoon, the SUNY Geneseo Lady Knights women’s tennis team swept the Utica Pioneers in a quick match, ending with a score of 7-0. Defeating the Pioneers brought them their third win for the season along with a record of 2-1 for conference play.

The National Hockey League (NHL) and Matthew Perry Foundation have partnered up for the 2025-26 preseason with the Goals for Recovery initiative, uniting one of North America’s most beloved sports leagues with a foundation dedicated to honoring the late actor’s legacy of advocacy.

On Saturday, Sept. 20, 2025, both the women’s and the men’s cross country teams at SUNY Geneseo attended the Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational at Genesee Valley Park. There were 24 teams present at the invitational, including the SUNY Geneseo team.

Flash forward to the 2025 MLB season and Judge is now in a similarly tight race for MVP. This time, his competitor is Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh, affectionately nicknamed “Big Dumper.” 

With the National Football League (NFL) just starting up, it is easy to forget about the prodigious athletes who make up the landscape of college football. While the season is still relatively fresh, candidates for the sport’s most esteemed accolade, the Heisman trophy, have already begun to emerge. 

National Football League (NFL) star Damar Hamlin and SUNY Geneseo’s Division III flag football team recently teamed up to create a back-to-school charity event for children in need.  

On Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2025 the Geneseo women’s tennis team beat the Cortland Dragons in a turnaround victory. The final score ended at 5-2 with a standout performance from the singles region.

This past Saturday, Sept. 13, 2025, Geneseo’s Club Softball team played a triple header against the University of Rochester (U of R).

With National Hockey League (NHL) training camps starting up in the next few days, many teams have been busy this offseason finalizing contracts, making roster moves, and preparing for the long season ahead.
