Boneless wings are a lie
The boneless wing is an act against nature. How can a wing be boneless? It can’t. There is no such thing.
Winter is the worst season
It seems ironic that the best season, autumn, leads to the worst, winter, as we go from the colorful changing foliage of the trees to no leaves at all. While winter may appeal to some, it seems there is far more to dread than to embrace—Christmas and different holidays celebrate the festivities surrounding the season, but once these have concluded, we’re left with several more months of cold, short overcast days with nothing festive in the near future.
Fourth of July in December
This time of the year has many synonymous aspects associated with it. While Christmas is no doubt many people’s favorite holiday, I also always enjoy the month’s 4th of July. Unfortunately, though it doesn’t have the entire month to itself, as the popular Christmas in July concept takes over the spotlight.
An evaluation of Black Friday: are the holidays what we make them to be?
Thanksgiving, though a holiday with an irreparably problematic history, is promoted as a holiday that is meant to celebrate gratitude and appreciate the people, resources and environment surrounding us. Thanksgiving is made out to be a holiday about peace, contentment and finding solace in what we already have, rather than seeking out more. Of course, this attitude is destined to hit the bricks as soon as Thanksgiving turns to Black Friday, ringing in the biggest day of the year in shopping, sales and consumption.
CAS, while attempting changes, leaves meal plan lackluster
In the weeks since I published the last article on the disaster that is the current dining situation on campus, CAS has, admittedly, made many changes. Nevertheless, the fact stands that they indeed did break something that didn’t need fixing.
The neutral magenta
Let’s talk about magenta: the color, the concept and the absolute phenomenon that it is. If you couldn’t tell by the premise of this article, I’m a pretty big fan of magenta, and, as per usual, I have a lot of thoughts concerning this topic. Even more controversially, I believe that magenta is a neutral color.
The spirit of Christmas or the spirit of the wishlist?
For those who celebrate Christmas, what do you look forward to when Christmas is near? What do you really look forward to? These questions are not aimed to shame anyone for materialistic feelings, but just to take a dive into the commercialization of Christmas. There are a lot of financial expectations when it comes to Christmas, and when your finances don't meet those expectations, Christmas can become more stressful than cheerful.
The closure of American prisons
In the past few years, the general public has become much more aware of the horrific conditions and standards of American prison systems. Even more recently, these standards have been brought up time and time again alongside headlines regarding a decline in the number of prisons.
Decrease in daylight is a decrease in happiness
The celebrated Beach Boys song “Warmth of the Sun,” an ode to the power of sunlight to bring joy. Unfortunately, this past week has seen Americans be robbed of an hour of warm sunshine by our antiquated arrangement of Daylight Savings Time. Twice a year, we wake up disoriented before a week of adjusting our circadian rhythms to an anthropogenic disruption that wreaks havoc on routines.
Afternoon in the Arboretum
While SUNY Geneseo has plenty of notable locations worth walking to in the area, but not many offer a secluded, quiet place to find some form of a getaway. Many locations nearby can be loud and filled with passing noise, but a quick walk to south side and the Spencer J. Roemer Arboretum can solve this problem.
The Finger Lakes are worth a visit
New York State is known for many attractions, and its natural resources are no exception. With plenty of water within the state, ranging from Niagara Falls to Lake George, to a series of bodies of water known as the Finger Lakes. While there are plenty of lakes, it seems none compare to the Finger Lakes.
New York is the perfect place for a National Park
If you are like most people, the first thing that comes to mind when someone mentions New York is the bustling cityscape of New York City, one of America's biggest and most populated cities. New York State, however, is also home to luscious natural landscapes, beautiful natural scenery and sprawling mountain ranges that bring thrill-seekers of all kinds to climb, ski, snowboard or just hike trails in the various locations available. Despite these gorgeous natural areas, New York is one of twenty-one states that do not have a single National Park in them. New York has multiple State Parks, but not one National Park.
Diamonds in the Rough
The other day I was sitting in The Lamron office in the mailroom for what I thought would be a time to eat lunch and an excuse to spend some time hanging out with my some of The Lamron’s editors, Kaitlin Anzalone (editor of the Opinion section) and Emma Mincer (co-editor of the News section).
Smoking While Driving Should Be Illegal
Smoking cigarettes while driving should be just as big of an offense as any other form of distracted driving.
Stew Doesn’t Stand Alone
I’ve had this stewing in my head since dinner—the dinner in question being the dinner I had the same night I wrote the work of art that is the “Soup is a Beverage” article. If you haven’t read that article, I highly recommend taking a peek at that one before you continue on here for both some very helpful context and for the absolute wild ride that it is. Perhaps it will brace you for what lies ahead.
Soup is a Beverage
Last week, a poll was put on The Lamron’s Twitter asking whether or not soup should be considered a beverage. While the poll resulted in a resounding “no,” I am here to make the case that soup is, in fact, a beverage. It seems that people don’t quite understand this logic, so I’m going to lay it out as clearly as I possibly can. I have strong feelings about this subject, so expect some turbulence.
Hiking is a Good Outdoor Activity
Hiking has always been a favorite outdoor activity of mine. No matter when or where, I have always found hiking to be an amazing way to explore new locations and get in some physical activity. While some hikes may require more endurance than others, there is always a reason for me to find myself out on new trails.
Scorpio Season
Welcome to early November. We're in the post-spooky era, diving head-first into crunchy leaves, dark windy weather, and a brisk chill in the air. It’s Scorpio season, baby.
Geneseo Restaurants Ranked
With the wide variety of restaurant options in Geneseo, it is hard to choose which is best. Luckily, The Lamron has put together a list of the most popular restaurants by category.
Temple Hill Cemetery
While Halloween may be the perfect time of year to visit a cemetery out of curiosity, many visit cemeteries for a variety of reasons, including recreation and historic fascinations. With the town and village of Geneseo being filled with plenty of history, there are great reasons to visit the local Temple Hill Cemetery, which itself is filled with plenty of historic value.
