In February 2026, the State University of New York system officially launched the SUNY Research Connect Portal, which features a collection of research and research publications from scholars throughout the various SUNY schools. As per the SUNY Research Connect Portal, the site features over 300,000 research output articles and more than 14,000 active grants and projects.
According to the official announcement on the SUNY Website, the Research Connect Portal is “an easy-to-navigate website that showcases the profiles of nearly 7,000 SUNY researchers from 26 campuses.” The same announcement explains that the “platform automatically populates data on SUNY researchers and their groundbreaking work, allowing researchers to verify, add, or update their information.” By allowing researchers to update and verify their information, the researchers are able to ensure that their data is correct and up to date, and those utilizing the information can rest assured that the information they are accessing is correct.
The announcement on the SUNY Website further explains that “The platform announced by Governor Hochul showcases transformative initiatives, and the many research projects taking place across the system and will help strengthen SUNY's foundation as a research leader in higher education.” Because the portal contains much of the research by SUNY schools and researchers, it is a useful tool for students doing research, both in the SUNY system and higher education. The portal contains research from many different fields and in 14 different languages. This wide range of research makes the SUNY Research Connect Portal useful for students in a broad range of majors, with many different research goals.
With a quick search under the profiles tab of the website, it is quickly found that ten scholars from SUNY Geneseo have their work published on the SUNY-wide site. SUNY Geneseo’s representation is largely from science departments, including, but not limited to, Biology and Chemistry. SUNY Geneseo’s website states, ““We are excited to share the valuable research of our faculty in SUNY’s new Research Connect portal,” said Anne Baldwin, director of sponsored research at SUNY Geneseo.” The selection of SUNY Geneseo researchers is exciting, both because of the recognition of our own faculty and because of the important work that they are doing. It is also likely that in the future, more SUNY Geneseo researchers will be listed on the site, due to the continual updating of the portal.
While there are already many resources for current students to conduct research, it is helpful that there is now a research portal that focuses on research by SUNY schools and researchers. Now, students can focus their research on research that is from SUNY schools if necessary.
The frequently asked questions (FAQ) about the portal section on SUNY’s site mentions that this portal is “not an exhaustive list of all the people and/or research that is happening at SUNY.” However, the FAQ does mention that the publications on the Research Connect Portal are updated weekly, making for consistent, updated information to broaden the research available.
Not only does the SUNY research connect portal contain widespread data and information, but it is also an easy-to-navigate portal where students and researchers alike can quickly find information on the topic of their choice. With six different tabs to search from, those accessing this information can easily narrow down which information they wish to locate, from locating researchers from a specific SUNY school in the profiles tab, to finding specific research publications on a topic in the research output tab.
