SUNY Geneseo has announced a partnership with Eastman Kodak Pharmaceutical Company, marked by a generous donation of 625,000 dollars to The Geneseo Foundation from Eastman Kodak, as per SUNY Geneseo’s news center on the college’s official website. Geneseo’s official website describes The Geneseo Foundation as a nonprofit organization aimed at "encouraging philanthropic contributions” in order to lend “financial support, leadership and advocacy to the College community while fostering engagement to enhance the unique Geneseo experience and build an endowment for the future.” The gifted money will “[fund] the acquisition of a Nanion Patchliner Octo automated patch clamp system, a cornerstone technology in modern electrophysiology… [as well as] the acquisition of a manual patch clamp system,... a three-year supply of Kodak reagents, such as Phosphate Buffered Saline and Water for Injection, and a three-year service contract.”
Defined by Dignity Health, “Electrophysiology is the cardiology specialty that diagnoses and treats problems related to the heart’s electrical system or heart rhythm malfunctions.” The organization further details that electrophysiology can be credited for “diagnos[ing] and treat[ing] problems related to the heart’s electrical system or heart rhythm malfunctions.”
This past January, “Eastman Kodak Company… announced the expansion of its pharmaceuticals portfolio with four new regulated products,” including the Phosphate Buffered Saline and Water for Injection included in the new partnership with SUNY Geneseo, as per Kodak’s official website.
Proving to be a valuable partnership for Geneseo and its students, Kodak further details on their website that the company “is a leading global manufacturer focused on commercial print and advanced materials & chemicals. With 79,000 worldwide patents earned over 130 years…, [Kodak] believe[s] in the power of technology and science to enhance what the world sees and creates.” Aligning with SUNY Geneseo’s commitment to sustainability, “Kodak is committed to environmental stewardship, including industry leadership in developing sustainable solutions for print,” as further detailed on the Kodak website.
As Geneseo further explained via their online news center, a lab in the campus’s Integrated Science Center (ISC) was named The Kodak Advanced Electrophysiology Lab (AEPL). The grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for the lab is scheduled for Apr. 23, 2026.
Assistant professor of biology-psychology, Tara Sweet, was quoted on Geneseo’s website praising the new Kodak Advanced Electrophysiology Lab, saying, “The new Kodak AEPL will support cutting-edge neuroscience and pharmaceutical research.” As per Geneseo’s news center, learning opportunities within this lab will be available to students at the college studying neuroscience, biology, biochemistry, chemistry, and business administration and marketing. “[T]he Kodak AEPL will [also] actively welcome external academic and industry collaborations, serving as a shared resource to support innovative research.”
Along with providing new, valuable learning and research opportunities, Geneseo has announced “[t]he partnership [also] includes the development of student internships with Kodak, including quality assurance and interdisciplinary project-based internships with Geneseo’s chemistry, communication, and marketing departments.”
This partnership could help to advance the already high value of degrees from SUNY Geneseo by providing even more opportunities. Already neuroscience majors at the college get access to an interdisciplinary program, while biology majors are prepared for a multitude of different “careers in biological sciences and medicine,” according to the college’s website. Best Colleges ranks SUNY Geneseo as “#17 in Regional Universities North,” “#5 in Top Public Schools,” and “#34 in Best Value Schools.”
