A sound that builds community: inside the Geneseo Wind Ensemble
On Thursday, Feb. 26, at 7:30 p.m., the Geneseo Wind Ensemble (GWE) took the stage at Wadsworth Auditorium for its latest concert. The program featured a wide range of composers, from Beethoven and Shostakovich to Charles Ives to contemporary writers like Adrian Sims and Jason Nitsch. Free and open to the public, the performance highlighted not only the group’s musical range, but also the steady work that goes into maintaining a strong performing arts presence on campus.
La Dolce Vita! Students launch Italian Cultural Club

“ICE OUT OF GENESEO” concert
This past Friday, Feb. 27, local bands Clambo, Emergency 54, and Garden Club teamed up to perform a concert to benefit the Rochester Rapid Response Network (RRRN), a “Rochester-area mutual aid group formed to support immigrants facing detention and deportation,” according to the group. I saw four organizations at the event: RRRN, Genesee Valley Indivisible (GVI), ICE Out Geneseo, and Justice For Migrant Families (JFMF).
Ward Parker Jr.: Unwrapped
If you are a frequent flyer at the Asada Station in Mary Jemison dining hall like this member of The Lamron, then you may know Ward Parker Jr., an employee of Campus Auxiliary Services (CAS). Ward is a SUNY Geneseo alum who, after living an interesting life, came out of retirement to work in one of the college’s dining halls—though he first started at the dining hall in the MacVittie College Union, not at Mary Jemison.

Have you ever wondered what you can do with a degree in history? The history department held a small panel of alumni, all of whom had graduated from their department and went on into the education field as teachers of various grade levels.
An evening of faith, fellowship, and fundraising
Last Saturday, Feb. 21, the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship chapter at SUNY Geneseo hosted a fundraising event to help raise awareness about sexual and domestic abuse. Approximately 25 participants gathered in the Hunt Room from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. where they opened with a prayer, listened to worship music, and engaged with various crafts and activities.
The campus-wide effort behind Admitted Students Day
Each spring, the campus welcomes a new wave of visitors—students who have already been accepted to Geneseo and are now deciding whether or not to call it home. Admitted Students Day is designed for exactly that moment in the decision process; it gives admitted students and their families the opportunity to take a closer, more detailed look at what life here is actually like, beyond brochures and campus tours.
Mindful Yoga for Mental Health
Mindful Yoga for Mental Health, taught by Beth Cholette, takes place every Friday from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Schrader studios. Beth is a licensed clinical psychologist and experienced registered yoga teacher. The class is open to anyone, student or staff. I first heard about this class during my orientation in the Fall 2024 semester, and I have been attending and practicing ever since!
