Here you can see them juggling plungers while on unicycles, which is insanely impressive!
“Unicorns, chaos, and supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.” These are the three words that describe SUNY Geneseo’s Circus Club, according to two of its e-board members, Kaiya Slovik-Rodgers and Julian Delisle. These two freshmen recently restarted the Geneseo Circus Club as a way to share “a passion of both of [theirs and] be around other people who have fun with them.” Through sharing their circus passions, both Kaiya and Julian agreed that “a big goal of [Circus Club] is to spread some joy around campus… [and] share what we love, [which is] cool people and cool things!” They enthusiastically sat down with The Lamron to talk more about spreading that circus joy.
The SUNY Geneseo campus used to be home to a Circus Club, but it has been inactive for several years now. Kaiya explained, “Other colleges I was looking at had some Circus Clubs, Juggling Clubs, and stuff, and here did not. And since otherwise this was the best school for me, I figured we needed a Circus Club again, and there used to be one.” Julian jumped into the conversation and shared the advice he heard several times throughout college tours and orientation: “If there’s not a club you want [on campus], just make one!” These sentiments inspired Julian and Kaiya to create the new Circus Club, never taking it too seriously (of course), spreading some joy, and embracing unicorns, chaos, and supercalifragilisticexpialidocious moments.
While Kaiya is only a freshman in college, she “[has] been doing circus pretty much since [she] was a toddler,” she told The Lamron. Julian has been “unicycling… for the past five years now [since the hobby started as] a COVID project,” which he has become famous for on campus, adopting the nickname “Geneseo Unicycle Guy” as he reflected on during the interview. These creative passions have further inspired the pair to get Circus Club up and running again at Geneseo. “Eventually, we want to put on performances somewhere,” Julian added.
Naturally, the club will be hosting lessons in unicycling, and Kaiya’s favorite circus trick, juggling. She revealed to The Lamron that outside of the Circus Club, fellow students “will see [her] juggling around campus. I’m the one [juggling] with the plungers.” Kaiya expressed her enthusiasm, saying “I’m really excited that I get to start the club now… I like just getting to meet all the different people who have all different levels of experience.” Her love for circus started when she was just a toddler, after she “saw a commercial for Cirque du Soleil,” she reminisced. Now, Kaiya and Julian hope their Circus Club will inspire the same joy and passion in others, saying “Circus is a big community, but it’s filled with a lot of unique people who have to find each other, but when you find each other, it’s a really good thing.”
The Circus Club is set to meet every other Thursday at 7:00pm in the Multicultural Center, and plans to keep fellow circus-lovers updated through the club’s Instagram account @geneseo_circus_club_2025. “I’m really excited to just have more fun,” Julian said about the upcoming meetings.
Both he and Kaiya emphasized that the club is open to everyone, regardless of experience level. Kaiya called herself “a jack of all trades in circus,” while even Julian said, “I’ve been sort of picking up other skills as of recently” and the club only hopes to “grow bigger!”
