From Monday Oct. 27 to Friday Oct. 31, the Geneseo Campus Activity Board (GCAB) hosted a series of spooky events completely free of charge to students on campus. These series of events were designed to provide students with an opportunity to do crafts, get free snacks, make new friends, and more. Events like these are funded by mandatory student activity fees, and all are always encouraged to attend.
The week started with Monday’s event, “Jack-O-Arts,” in the Multicultural Center from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. This event featured pumpkin painting, cookie decorating, and tin box decorating for students. GCAB consists of 14 Geneseo students who assist in running and planning events such as these, many of whom were present at each event to ensure that everything ran smoothly and supplies were being handled properly. This event provided a great opportunity to kick off the spooky week and walk away with three different crafts!
Next up was “Booquet Building,” which took place on Tuesday from 5:00pm to 7:00pm in the MacVittie College Union. This event was by far the most popular event of the week, stocked with hundreds of flowers which were gone within 30 minutes. Roses, sunflowers, and a variety of fall-themed flowers were available for students to create their perfect mix and wrap them up in aesthetically pleasing brown wrapping paper. Even though this event ended early when supplies ran out, students were very pleased with their spooky creations.
Wednesday’s event, “Spooktacular Crafts,” was held in the Union ballroom lounge from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. The craft in question was a fleece pumpkin pillow that could be tied together and then filled with fluffy stuffing. Luckily for students, these pumpkins were already pre-cut and measured so they only had to do the fun parts of the craft!
Thursday’s event was a favorite for many students; “Haunted Art Hour” had face painting, a henna artist, and tote bag/coaster painting from 3:00pm to 5:00pm in the Multicultural Center. Face paint has been all the rage lately, so students were eager to get a funky design done and flaunt it for the rest of the day. While the face painting only lasts a day, henna can last over a week, providing students with something fun even after Halloween is over. Tote bag painting is always popular among students, many of whom use the bags for grocery shopping or just everyday usage.
To top it all off, Friday kicked off a classic Halloween-themed event, “Ghostly Goodie Bags,” from 1:00pm to 3:00pm in the MacVittie College Union Ballroom Lounge, inspired by the childhood activity of trick or treating. Students could fill a cute bag with candy, crystal mushrooms, glowsticks, stickers, bubbles, coloring books, and more all while chatting about what they would be dressing up as for Halloween.
If you missed these events last week, do not feel left out! GCAB is hosting one of their most popular events of the year, Fall Fest, on Sunday, Nov. 9, 2025 starting at 4:00pm. This event is also free to all Geneseo students and will take place on campus!
