Spider-Man is without a doubt one of the most beloved superheroes, if not one of the most beloved characters, of all time. Most of us grew up seeing some version of the classic tale play out—a high schooler gets bitten by a radioactive spider by chance and quickly learns that with great power comes great responsibility as they decide to protect New York with their new gift. Whether we were pretending to be a Spider-Man we saw in a movie, a series, a comic, or one of the vast many of the multiversal counterparts, many of us have fond childhood memories of running through the living room slinging invisible webs.
All that to say that when a new movie comes out centering the webbed warrior, it is a pretty big deal to a lot of people. The current most popular version of Spider-Man is the one being utilized by the Marvel Cinematic Universe, better known as the MCU. This version stars the beloved Tom Holland, according to IMDb, and he will be starring in the next Marvel film which will be known as Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026). This film will be released on Jul. 31, 2026, and will mark the fourth installment of the Spider-Man films that star Tom Holland. This will make it the first attempt at a live-action Spider-Man franchise that has gotten more than three films.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) is going to pick up right after the last film, Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). This movie followed Spider-Man getting up to all sorts of multiversal shenanigans, including meeting other versions of himself played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Most importantly, it ended with Spider-Man agreeing to allow everyone to forget that his secret identity, Peter Parker, ever existed. This meant Peter lost all of his friends, and this movie will feature him starting from the ground up with nothing to his name except for being Spider-Man.
The very first trailer for this film released on Mar. 18, 2026, giving audiences their first glance of the film. It seems that Spider-Man is attempting to reconnect with the friends that were forced to forget about him, specifically his best friend, Ned and his former girlfriend, MJ (played by Jacob Batalon and Zendaya respectively, according to IMDb). Both these characters played very prominent roles in the past three films, so it would be difficult to imagine a Spider-Man movie in the MCU without them, even if it means the audience must suffer through the heart-break of watching Spider-Man pretend not to know his best friends.
Luckily, it looks like Spider-Man will be forming some new connections too. Although it did not appear to be the friendliest conversation in the world, Spider-Man was spotted talking to fellow vigilante, the Punisher. Interestingly, the Punisher is being played by Jon Bernthal, according to IMDb, meaning this is most likely the same Punisher who appeared in Marvel’s Netflix television series, The Punisher (2017-2019) and Daredevil (2015-2018).
Marvel’s Netflix series have existed in an odd state of semi-canon to the MCU films, besides an appearance from Charlie Cox briefly playing Daredevil’s alter ego, Matthew Murdock, in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), according to IMDb. However, they are also the best examples of the “street-level” heroes of the Marvel universe, who are not expected to deal world-ending threats. It is really cool to see Spider-Man interacting with these characters because he is arguably a character that is at his most endearing as a street-level hero.
Rather surprisingly, the Avenger himself, Bruce Banner, otherwise known as the Hulk (played by Mark Ruffalo, according to IMDb) will also be making an appearance in this film. It was revealed in the trailer that Spider-Man’s DNA is beginning to “mutate,” which might be the natural progression of a radioactive spider bite, or might be a sign that mutants, the superheroes with innate powers that make up the X-Men franchise, are speeding up their incredibly slow integration into the MCU by claiming one of the most popular characters in their name. Regardless, this mutation is causing Spider-Man’s abilities to change, including now being able to shoot biological webs out of his wrists despite having relied on web shooters in the past. It looks as though his new power set is a bit difficult to control, so he is seeking out the help of scientist and fellow superhero with difficult-to-control powers, Bruce Banner.
Another interesting addition to this film is the confirmed casting of Sadie Sink, according to IMDb, best known for playing Max in the popular series Stranger Things (2016-2025). Her role in the film is yet to be revealed, and she did not even appear in the trailer. However, the most prominent theory circulating online is that Sink will be playing the MCU’s adaption of Jean Grey, a well-known telepathic mutant and member of the X-Men.
Overall, it appears that Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) is shaping up to be a very interesting film, full of interesting characters and a journey of self-discovery. Keep an eye out for this film at your local theater on Jul. 31, 2026.
