Women’s track and field team dominates at the Bill Q invitational

The Geneseo Knights women’s track and field team delivered a dominant performance at the Bill Q Invitational, piling up top finishes across jumps, throws, sprints, and distance events ahead of the upcoming Empire 8 Championships.
This past Friday, Apr. 24, the women’s track and field team traveled to the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) to compete in the Bill Q invitational. The Knights dominated their competition and certainly gave a show to the spectators in Rochester.
To start off the event, in the long jump, with a first and third place finish by sophomore Mackenzie Kubat and senior Kayla Anatasia, with Kubat jumping 5.63 meters. Following their teammates' amazing performances, in the triple jump, was junior Marisa Mazzacco and freshman Leondda Celestin jumped 11.15 meters and 10.06 meters, respectively. The performance by the jumpers certainly paved the way for their teammates to reach impressive scores as well. This was seen in junior Gigi Ferro’s amazing height of 1.48 meters in the high jump, allowing her to earn first place.
In the hammer throw, freshman Mckenzie Zafuto and junior Ashley Tubbs achieved second and third place with distances of 46.04 meters and 45.84 respectively. To continue on the throwers’ display of dominance, in the shotput, senior Payton Mehalick had an impressive throw of 12.34 meters, allowing her to take second place in the event.
Moving to the 200-meter, sophomore Lindsay Tellez took first place with a time of 25.37; her teammates Anastasia and Kubat followed her impressive performance, taking second and third place with times of 25.85 and 26.14, respectively. Entering the 100-meter, an incredible show was put on by Lindsy Tellez and Anastasia. Tellez and Anastasia took second and third place in the event, with times of 12.47 and 12.73 respectively.
In the 5000-meter, the spectators got to witness another amazing performance by sophomore Hana Ohashi, senior Anna Tessier, and sophomore Maggie Kleiber. Ohashi, Tessier, and Kleiber took first, second, and third place in the event, with Ohashi snagging first place with a time of 19:09.90. In the 800-meter, freshman Greylynn Guyer attained fourth place for the Knights with a time of 2:18.77 when she crossed the line. To end the meet, in the 400-meter hurdles, freshman Stella Riley won second place with a time of 1:04.76.
The women's track and field team's incredible performance in Rochester was an impressive show of dominance and talent. If the women's track and field team can continue to excel in what they do best, there is no doubt that they will emerge victorious in their next event. The Knights will travel to St. John Fisher in Pittsford, New York, for the Empire 8 Championships on Friday, May 1, and Saturday, May 2.
Throughout the season, the Knights’ women’s track and field team has dominated in all different events throughout their season, highlighted by senior Sierra Doody, who earned Empire 8 athlete of the week due to a series of impeccable performances throughout the season. Doody managed this amazing feat by competing in the Paul Donahue Invitational at Widener University in Chester, Pennsylvania.
Doody competed in three events, where she took second overall in the 4x400 relay team with a time of 3:50.99, which is the ninth fastest time in the program history and the 14th best in Division III this season. She also finished third overall with a time of 57.01 in the 4x400 and was the Knights’ top placer with a time of 2:09.85 in the 800 meters.
