Indianapolis Colts Running-Back Jonathan Taylor has been one of the biggest names in trade-talks this NFL season. As one of the best running-backs in the league, whatever team picks him up is going to be getting a major boost to their offense.
Situated at the halfway point of the National Football League (NFL) season, the deadline for teams to make significant trades is upon us. This season, some of the biggest stars in the game could potentially be on the chopping block, altering the NFL landscape going forward.
Colts star running back Jonathan Taylor is easily the biggest chess piece that could find himself in a new jersey very soon. At the moment, there is no clear Super Bowl favorite, which means that teams are gonna be hungry to improve their rosters and separate themselves from the pack. Along with Jonathan Taylor, we’ll break down the numerous game changing talents that could be moved this trade-deadline.
Jonathan Taylor (Running Back): Indianapolis Colts
As previously mentioned, Taylor is easily the biggest name that has consistently found himself in trade-talks this season. Currently, his team finds themselves amidst a truly dismal season, sitting at 2-6 and third in the American Football Conference (AFC) South. Indianapolis already has high profile stars such as defensive tackle Deforest Buckner, and offensive-lineman Quinton Nelson. Many believe Taylor is the next domino to fall; he is one of the best running backs in the sport, coming off a 1,585 yard, 15 touchdown season. Taylor would fetch quite the return for a Colts team that desperately needs considering they do not own a first round pick next year. Look out for some of the NFL’s biggest surprise teams this season (Vikings and Giants) to acquire Taylor.
Brian Thomas Jr. (Wide Receiver): Jacksonville Jaguars
Yet another AFC South team finds themselves mired in trade rumours, except in this case it is more of a by-product of their success than complete failure. Thomas, who was a first round pick of the Jaguars in 2024, is a talented pass-catcher that has struggled with inconsistency in his young career. Jacksonville drafted him to be the number one wide-receiver but he has gradually settled into more of a complementary role as fellow wide-receiver Parker Washington has supplanted him. Sporting just ten catches on the season, whoever acquires Thomas will have to look past his present struggles and hope that he returns to the level that he showed in his phenomenal rookie season.
Josh Sweat (Edge-Rusher): Arizona Cardinals
A high-impact edge-rusher is a ubiquitous need across the NFL, and teams are drooling over the chance to add Sweat to their defensive-line room. The 29 year old has all the physical tools (6 foot 5 inches tall, 265 pounds) with a relentless motor. Sweat has a combined 15 sacks over the last two seasons of Arizona, and has championship pedigree, winning with the Eagles in 2025. Teams such as the Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears, and San Francisco 49ers have been rumored to be interested in Sweat’s services.
It is interesting how the NFL trade deadline is often overlooked by many fans and analysts, believing it to be procedural rather than a seismic event. Yet, just this season we have already seen superstars such as defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons get traded, along with the aforementioned Nelson and Buckner. No longer should fans snooze through the deadline without hope that anything interesting will happen. Teams now view the deadline as their last chance to acquire superstar-talents in hopes to have the confetti fall upon their organization. Let’s see who is the next domino to fall that shakes up the foundations of the NFL.
