After making a splash against SUNY Brockport on Halloween, the SUNY Geneseo swimming and diving teams extended their undefeated streaks with dominant wins — the men cruising 232-66 and the women powering through 197-103 — marking their fifth straight victory of the season.
The Knights’ swimming and diving team faced SUNY Brockport this past Friday on Halloween. They must have scared away the competition because the men’s team dominated with a score of 232-66, and the women’s team was not far behind with a score of 197-103. This was the fifth straight win for both teams.
Starting off with the men’s swim portion, the 200-yard medley relay team of junior Alex Palmer, freshman Peter Peyser, junior Brian Pabisch, and freshman Matt Pinzon Pacheco won with a time of 1:34.58. The 200-yard freestyle team also took another first-place finish, composed of swimmers senior Jake Nielsen, sophomore Dylan Gallub, Pabisch, and Peyser. Colin Babbitt also won the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:15.65. The Knights did not let up as Palmer won the 100-yard backstroke at 52.85.
Later in the meet, the winning continued without barriers. Starting off, Peyser won his second event for the night in the 50-yard freestyle at 21.69. For the 100-yard freestyle, junior Jack Keene followed suit with a win, timing at 48.91. Palmer won yet another event for the Knights with the 200-yard backstroke timed at 1:55.47.
Looking at the women’s swim portion, they put on a scary good performance for the entirety of the meet. Starting off with the 1000-yard freestyle, senior Abby Funk took first with a time of 10:51.17. Junior Alex Sotek frightened away the competition with her two individual wins—she killed the 200-yard butterfly at 2:16.18 and the 200-yard backstroke at 2:13.17. In the 100-yard backstroke, Erin Johannsen won at 1:01.86. Freshman Maura O’Donnell took the win for the 500-yard freestyle at 5:23.24. The first-place finish for the 400-yard individual medley (IM) was also captured by freshman Chloe Marcyan, cruising with a time of 4:45.43. To end out of the meet with one more win, the 200-yard medley relay team of freshman Sibby Lowe, Johannsen, Sotek, and sophomore Kaitlyn Geary had 1:37.66 for the first-place finish.
The Knights’ diving team was absolutely devilish, winning every single event. On the men's side, senior Greg Meder won not only the three-meter with a score of 338.60, but also the one-meter as well at 334.55. As for the women’s diving team, they swept the podium in both events. Freshman Morgan Davey came in first for the one-meter 252.45, while senior Lydia Benjamin and junior Lauren Savage came in second and third. For the three-meter, Benjamin and Savage tied for first at 233.40 while Davey came in third at 232.25.
This win kept the Knights undefeated for the season. They have had the reputation of winning the Empire 8 and SUNYAC for several previous seasons, so it will be exciting to see if they can continue the streak. The Knights’ next meet will be at the DIII college shootout in Chicago, facing Trinity and RIT in a tri-meet format. Be sure to be on the lookout for upcoming meets at home as the Knights always impress.
