Geneseo Tennis performs a clean sweep

The SUNY Geneseo women’s tennis team has been having an amazing season! The girls have played and won six matches so far.
Last Friday, the Knights played St. John Fisher University on the home courts at 4 p.m. With singles playing to start the match, the girls dominated the courts. Singles player senior Natalie Pipes won 6-1 7-5, senior Samantha Rava won 6-3 6-1, senior Rachel Molloy won 6-1 6-2, and sophomore Lauren Levatino won 6-1 6-0. Later on, the women played doubles with Pipes and senior JoAnn Catalano winning 6-1, Rava and Molloy winning 6-0, and senior Talia Wutz and Levatino winning 6-0 as well, according to the tennis website. What an awesome match!
This is not the only match that Geneseo has dominated. The other six games they played this season have been clean sweeps as well! After matches against Oswego, Cortland, Russell Sage College, Penn State Behrend, St. John Fisher University, and Alfred University, the Knights have a record of six wins and zero losses this season. This is great news for the Knights as they are advancing towards the Empire 8 Conference for the third year in a row.
The trajectory of the team’s wins are pointing to a chance at the Empire 8 Conference once again. This year’s conference will take place from Tuesday, Oct. 13 to Saturday, Oct. 17 with the top seeded team hosting the first round and the higher seeded team hosting the semifinals and finals. In order for the team to attend this year, they must rank in the top six of the eligible teams. Based on the current standings, Geneseo is ranked first.
The Knights have yet to face top competitor Hartwick College, but are set to play them on Oct. 9. Hartwick, being a fierce competitor, has won against Geneseo in 2024 and twice in 2025 according to SUNY Geneseo’s records. The Knights will surely put up a fight to maintain their spot. The team has played in the conference for the past two years and are looking to be accepted again this year. With the amazing singles and doubles players on the team, as well as their current ranking and trajectory, they are looking at a shot at attending. The team will be versing Hartwick away this year, so keep a look out for the results!
Every week of the season so far, the Empire 8 has named a Geneseo Knight as “Player of the Week.” For the week of Sept. 1, Natalie Pipes was recognized for her “three-straight sweeps in the opening week” of the season. She also “won all three of her doubles matches in the first spot with teammate JoAnn Catalano.” Alongside Pipes, doubles players Rachel Molloy and Samantha Rava were named “Player of the Week” for the week of Sept. 7. This duo was the only team to win against Penn State Behrend with a score of 6-1. Players will continue to work hard and keep their streak going.
