As the academic year comes to a close, we at The Lamron thought it would be beneficial to look back on our favorite articles!
If you want to participate in the work we do here, join us next semester; you are always welcome!
What an academic year it has been! In between all the countless fun-filled events on Geneseo’s campus, the amazing peers and professors we have met, and everything we have been learning, we have all managed to make some time for our favorite campus newspaper, The Lamron. Our newspaper staff is all set to wrap up the year with some final thoughts on our favorite Lamron memories.
While picking a favorite article may be nearly impossible, the infamous vaquita porpoise articles were a great hit. It all started with our Editor-in-Chief’s Sustainability Corner article titled “The vaquita porpoise population is hovering near extinction,” which was about the lovable sea creature’s possible extinction. This later evolved into a satirical article in The normaL edition of our paper this semester titled “Vaquita porpoises to overthrow the Mexican government.” Another Sustainability Corner favorite article from this year: “Scientists have begun to successfully create heat-resistant coral reefs.” The Lamron loves our Earth and all of its inhabitants!
Sustainability Corner was a huge success for our paper this year, however our beloved Lamron has so much more to offer. Sometimes, picking one favorite article is simply too challenging. Still, our e-board members can offer some favorite Lamron memories, beyond solely the articles we published. Writing an article where we struggle to stay under our word limit can be challenging, especially when we are having fun. This year, several articles gave us this task, which made an even more passionate paper.
No edition of The Lamron is complete, of course, without some hot takes. Coming up with our hot takes together in-office is always a highlight of e-board members’ weeks. An article that inspired a lot of discussion as of late, “We have a misguided belief in our invincibility,” addressed recent foreign policy decisions and what they reveal about our country’s self-perception. Another article that brought the e-board together was titled “If you care enough, you can always make time,” discussing our responsibility to our friends despite busy schedules.
Current e-board members are not the only ones included in The Lamron community. Recently, The Lamron was able to sit down with the Copy and Web Editor from 2020/2021 and talk about their upcoming nuptials. The article is titled “Love story in The Lamron: Madelyn Dewey and Cal Hoag,” and was truly such an incredible experience.
No recap of The Lamron would be complete without mentioning The normaL. One of the articles that we still think about is “Becoming a pretentious film bro: A guide.” Of course we have to also include the article “Goncharov (1973): if you haven’t seen it, you should,” which pranked our Copy Editor with its appearance of legitimacy online—complete with movie posters and cast lists—despite being about a completely made-up film.
The Lamron prides itself on providing interesting, entertaining, and valuable articles to our Geneseo community, but the process is just as valuable as the product. Spending time together in The Lamron office as writers, editors, and e-board members has given us all countless memories, friendships, and learning experiences. Due to the community built in this office, quite a few articles have come out of it. Some of the most recent ones are titled “Why you should join The Lamron!” and “Finding your own creative outlet in college is crucial.”
The Lamron has had a great year, both with our publications and the friendships that we have formed. To read any of the articles mentioned—and many more of our favorites—check out our website at thelamron.com!
