WGSU Genny Fest to be held May 6
After a two year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2022 Genny Fest will be held Friday, May 6. The festival includes live music, food trucks, and performances by student dance groups between music sets, as well as live radio interviews on WGSU with performers FXRRVST and Geneseo alum Allison Leah ‘18.
SUNY Geneseo time capsules set to be opened in 50 years
It was recently announced that SUNY Geneseo will be burying a time capsule with letters to future students alongside a capsule buried in 1996. Both are set to be opened in 2071.
Ukrainian college student looking to transfer abroad, continue education
Ukrainian college student Anna Kolesnik is working with SUNY Geneseo Associate Professor of Art History Alla Myzelev to transfer to foreign universities in order to continue her education abroad and escape the Russian invasion of Ukraine. She has been applying to universities in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom while continuing her education online in Ukraine.
Department of Labor issues notice of violation due to harmful UV lights in classrooms
On Mar. 30, the Department of Labor (DOL) issued a notice of violation and order to comply to SUNY Geneseo due to the harmful ultra-violet (UV) lights that were previously used in several classrooms around campus. The College has since removed the UV lights in compliance with the order.
Annual GREAT day to be held April 21
GREAT Day at SUNY Geneseo will be held Thursday, Apr. 21. According to the Geneseo website, GREAT Day is a college-wide symposium celebrating the creative and scholarly endeavors of Geneseo students. GREAT stands for Geneseo Recognizes Excellence, Achievement & Talent, and the day is reserved for student presentations of their research and creative works.
Geneseo professor works to bring Ukrainian refugee students to American colleges
SUNY Geneseo Associate Professor of Art History Alla Myzelev is raising awareness for Ukrainian refugees fleeing the country following the invasion by Russia and attempting to connect Ukrainian college students with American colleges, to finish their degrees.
Relay For Life to fund cancer research to be held Apr. 30
The Relay for Life will be held on Saturday, Apr. 30 as a fundraiser to benefit the American Cancer Society (ACS). The fundraiser will be held in the Merritt Athletic Center from 4 p.m. to 4 a.m.
Geneseo recommends masking indoors following rise in COVID cases
In response to a rise in active COVID cases on campus and in Livingston County, SUNY Geneseo recommends that students wear masks. The recommendation came in an email to Geneseo students on Apr. 8.
Former Knight Spot to reopen as the Multicultural Center
The space on campus formerly known as the Knight Spot is in the process of being renovated and will be renamed the Multicultural Center. The center will serve as a lounge and community space for students on campus, as well as an event center for culture clubs.
“Deep Freeze” fundraiser fighting cancer on campus
Members of the fraternity Alpha Chi Rho (AXP), also known as “Crows,” have been collecting money outside of the Integrated Science Center this week as part of their annual “Deep Freeze” fundraiser. Deep Freeze is part of AXP’s fundraising for SUNY Geneseo’s Relay for Life, a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.
Little Free Thoughts Library helps students share and connect on campus
The Little Free Thoughts Library is an anonymous resource for Geneseo students to share thoughts, feelings, and ideas with others. Created by Ashlee Kuzemchak, the library aims to provide a sense of community and a place for students to share feelings without fear of judgment.

The SUNY Geneseo Center for Local and Municipal History, in collaboration with the Geneseo History Department, will host a book seminar with Justin Murphy, author of Your Children Are Very Greatly in Danger: School Segregation in Rochester, New York.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, a month dedicated to raising awareness about sexual and domestic violence, resources for victims, and ways to get involved and reduce incidents of violence.
Peace Action Geneseo holds rally, calls for peace in Ukraine
On Friday, Mar. 4, dozens of students and members of the Geneseo community rallied together to call for peace in Ukraine in Village Park on the corner of Main Street. The demonstration was organized by Peace Action Geneseo (PAG) in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which began on Feb. 24.
Students, faculty complain of health problems due to UV lights on campus
On Jan. 29, an anonymous professor sent a Canvas announcement to their class requesting information on whether or not students were experiencing eye irritations, possibly as a result of the new UVC lights installed in certain classrooms as a COVID-19 precaution.
SUNY Geneseo Dance Ensemble to perform Mar. 3-6
The SUNY Geneseo Department of Theatre and Dance Studies is hosting the dance performance In Clear Sight by the Geneseo Dance Ensemble. Performances will be held in the Alice Austin Theater from Mar. 3-5 at 7:30 P.M. and on Mar. 6 at 2 P.M.
School of Business to offer two new undergraduate majors next semester
SUNY Geneseo has been approved to offer two new majors in the Fall 2022 semester: finance and data analytics. Both majors have previously been offered by the School of Business as minors but will be available to take as majors beginning next semester.
Changes made to general education requirements
SUNY Geneseo has been in the process of changing the general education curriculum to include less credits and classes that fit into broader skill areas. Students will be allowed to pick between the old and new curricula starting in the Fall 2022 semester.

There are several research opportunities available to undergraduate students in the sciences at SUNY Geneseo. These opportunities are offered by professors in a range of disciplines and are useful to any students looking to apply to graduate studies in the sciences.
SUNY Geneseo mask mandate lifted, masks optional for fully vaccinated students
In a campus-wide email, SUNY Geneseo announced that wearing masks on campus will be made optional beginning Monday, Mar. 7. Students that are not fully vaccinated will still be required to wear masks in public places such as classrooms and common areas.
