“There will be breakfast tacos”: soon-to-be-owner of Bent Wing Bakery & Cafe assures future customers
Piper, the former owner of Cosmic Charlie’s cafe sat down with The Lamron to discuss her new culinary adventure

Almost every SUNY Geneseo student can relate to simply needing a good cup of coffee and maybe a little snack. Piper, the face behind the upcoming cafe in Geneseo, Bent Wing Bakery & Cafe, can relate. Piper previously had a hand in running the beloved Cosmic Charlie’s cafe, which closed for business this past summer of 2026. Now, however, she is soaring onto a new journey—one which she hopes Geneseo community members will join her on.
Piper’s career in culinary skills—especially a good breakfast taco and an energizing cup of coffee—threw her into opening her first cafe, Cosmic Charlie’s, as she recounted in a conversation about her journey with The Lamron. After spending some time in Boston, Massachusetts with her sister, Piper moved back to Geneseo; she recounts that one of her good friends just “really needed, like, good coffee.” From then on, Piper explains, her life seemed to revolve around good cups of coffee. As Comic Charlie’s success grew, Piper recalled having “so many wonderful communities that ended up supporting [her] cafe.”
Today, Piper is only weeks away from opening Bent Wing Bakery & Cafe, her newest culinary adventure, right on Geneseo’s Main Street. The space is already special to her, and the cafe has not even opened yet. The location also has a deeper significance; Piper’s mom used to run a photo and gift store—Pictures & Presents—in the very building she is currently transforming into the bakery. This little place on Main Street that saw Piper grow up is serving as her home once more, providing the Geneseo community with a new place to grab a cup of coffee, enjoy a treat, and gather with friends.
Even the name of the Geneseo’s new bakery is special to Piper and her family. “‘Bent Wing’ comes from the nickname of the Corsair, a historic naval airplane,” she explained to The Lamron, before elaborating that her family started the nearby National Warplane Museum, and she harbors a personal love for the Corsair and naval history. She was “inspired … to choose something that would honor that part of this community and [her] family while also tying in the wildlife and natural beauty of Geneseo.” The bakery’s hawk logo, and its bent wings, Piper concluded, is meant to “resemble [where] the Corsair came from.”
She is hoping, as the bakery prepares for opening and the kitchen comes together, that the building will transform into a “cozy” and “really exciting” space for Geneseo students, and the broader Geneseo community, “to come study and set up shop, but also come [for] meetings… [and to just] hangout… and grab [something to eat].”
Bent Wing Bakery & Cafe is set to open with more accessible hours and some grab-and-go options to support the Geneseo community—from the previous community members who originally fell in love with Piper’s creative culinary ideas at Cosmic Charlie’s to newcomers at Bent Wing Bakery. Piper emphasized her appreciation for the community members who have made the opening of her new bakery and cafe possible. In her conversation with The Lamron, Piper specifically mentioned her excitement for the kitchen installations her team have been working non-stop on getting ready for use, including, of course, the espresso machines.
Piper discussed the new features in the upcoming bakery to look forward to, such as the expanded hours and the menu (arguably, the part the community may be most interested in seeing). She herself is especially excited to get back to cooking up some comfort foods, including cozy and delicious soups and stews in the new, expanded kitchen she will be working with in Bent Wing.
Still, some old favorites of the community will move with Piper from Cosmic Charlie’s into Bent Wing. Of course, much of the community was immediately concerned about the loss of their breakfast tacos which had been served at Cosmic Charlie’s. Piper reassured The Lamron, “there will be breakfast tacos.” No cafe is complete without espresso and Piper’s specialty syrups, so the Geneseo community has those to look forward to in the new space as well, alongside the new delicious menu items Piper is excited to start cooking up.
She says this cafe journey has taught her “everything” about herself, from setting boundaries, to trusting herself, to how to balance taking care of her own health while supporting the community.
Something seemingly so simple as a cafe has completely transformed Piper’s life for the past few years, and has served as a place of happiness for many community members. Although her first adventure in bakeries has come to an end, the Bent Wing Bakery & Cafe marks a new era for herself, and a new place for the Geneseo community to come together—while enjoying a coffee and a breakfast taco, of course.
