New York’s Public Honors College, SUNY Geneseo, was recently named as a ‘Best College’ in the Princeton Review’s 2026 edition of The Best 391 Colleges. The Princeton Review is a New York-based education company founded in 1992. The company has since become recognized for its test preparation, college admissions services, educational resources, and programs.

Editor-in-Chief of the Princeton Review, Rob Franek, spoke highly of the Public Honors College and its students, saying, “SUNY Geneseo has outstanding academic programs, and the feedback we received about Geneseo from its students was very impressive.”

As stated on the Princeton Review’s official website, the information used to determine which colleges make the Princeton Review's Best Colleges list comes from real students. They “give each college a score for its students’ responses to each survey question.” This survey, given by the Princeton Review, has “98 questions in four sections.” Questions regard “their school academics/administration,” “life at their college,” “their fellow students,” and themselves.” According to the same webpage, approximately 15 percent of four-year colleges in the country made the cut for the Princeton Review’s 2026 best colleges book.

The 2026 edition of The Best 391 Colleges includes data from over 170,000 students across America. It has become a great honor for colleges to be praised by the Princeton Review, as they have been working in the educational field for over 30 years and have conducted more than one million surveys to connect with students and create a reliable college ranking system.

SUNY Geneseo has over 180 student organizations, according to the Department of Student Life, making a place and community for everyone on campus. With over 3,000 undergraduate students, it is clear to the Geneseo community that the student population has come together to give such a positive review of Geneseo, resulting in the college’s accolades. The amount of academic opportunities is also a reason that SUNY Geneseo was recognized. Popular majors at SUNY Geneseo include social sciences, education, psychology, business, management, and marketing studies, as well as biological sciences and biomedical sciences.

To support the claim made by the Princeton Review that SUNY Geneseo is an outstanding academic institution, readers are also informed that roughly 90% of the institution’s faculty hold a PhD. The Public Honors College also enables students to practice integrative learning through inquiry and creativity using community-based environments on campus.

This is not Geneseo’s first recognition by the renowned Princeton Review; earlier this June, the Princeton Review named SUNY Geneseo as one of the best value colleges for the year. The criteria for making the list included statistics about academics, cost of attendance, financial aid, debt, and graduation rates, as well as alumni career and salary data, according to the SUNY Geneseo website. Supported by statistics that show SUNY Geneseo students often winning major national fellowships and getting accepted into prestigious graduate programs and schools, it is no surprise to see Geneseo make this list and continue to be recognized year after year by The Princeton Review. This year’s place on the best colleges of 2026 list only adds to SUNY Geneseo’s impressive list of accolades. For all of the reasons that Geneseo made this list, including its academics, generous financial aid, and career services, the Princeton Review’s Editor-In-Chief said that the company would “recommend [Geneseo] highly to college applicants.”
