Madison Brunn is a senior Sociology major at Geneseo and has been the Comic Editor for The Lamron since the Fall of 2024. They are also the owner of a lovely cat named Hashbrown.

Nia Jones is a senior English literature major at SUNY Geneseo and is the current Opinion Editor of The Lamron. Although she is a Geneseo student, that was not always the case. During their first semester of freshman year, Jones attended SUNY Brockport. This did not last very long, however, as she applied to Geneseo with the assistance of friends who attended this SUNY.

Faith Zatlukal, The Lamron’s Photo Editor, is a senior mathematics major and a communication minor at SUNY Geneseo. They discussed their interest in both subjects, noting the interconnectedness of math in the universe and its application to interpersonal communication. They emphasize the importance of seizing opportunities in college and avoiding wasting time.

As the semester progresses at a snail’s pace while work seems to pile higher than ever, it is important to remember students’ outlets on campus that allow them to garner community and be among like-minded individuals. Fortunately, for students of the SUNY Geneseo campus, some outlets have the potential to continue to do just that for those willing and eager enough to try them out— one being Upstate Escapes. 

Dr. Jessica Gilbert-Overland is an assistant professor in the Department of Geography and Sustainability Studies at Geneseo. She has held many positions, including being an alum (class of 2013). These ranged from starting as an adjunct in the Spring of 2020 to being a postdoc and now in her current position as an assistant professor. 

For schools nationwide, mascots are a vital symbol of community and motivation for its students, symbolizing the greater whole of the school and becoming a vital component of sports fan and player lifestyles. At SUNY Geneseo, we are lucky enough to have one of the most iconic mascots, having won the annual SUNY Mascot Madness in both 2016 and 2018, Victor E. Knight; aptly named for his appearance as a human wearing a medieval knight’s armor.

Rose Mournighan is the Helpdesk Coordinator/IT Support Professional at SUNY Geneseo. Mournighan has worked at Geneseo since May 2023. She explained how she first got involved with computing & information technology (CIT) at Geneseo: “I went to the University of Rochester, and part of that was managing a student IT help desk for the IT department, but that was for $15 an hour.” Mournighan continues, “During my time at the University of Rochester, I fell in love with Student Affairs and working with kids.” A friend and fellow manager at the University of Rochester scouted for the CIT help desk job and told Mournighan she would be a perfect fit. 

Kayla Storie is a senior socio-medical and biology double major and an emergency medical technician (EMT) on the Geneseo campus. She is also the Chief of Operations of Geneseo First Response (GFR); “Chief of Operations for us is kind of the overarching term for the person who looks after and oversees all the other e-board positions.” Storie explains that her position “spans across clinical and non-clinical operations of our management, and then also just communication with teams that aren't our own.”

Rebecca “Becky” Leathersich serves as an associate librarian here on the SUNY Geneseo campus but fills roles as much more than that, becoming an incredibly active and involved member of the campus community since her return to her alma mater as a faculty member in May of 2020. Currently, she takes on the helm of being the Asian Studies Program Coordinator, Korean American Student Association (KASA) Advisor, and a member of both the President’s Commission on Diversity and Community and Library Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity, and Antiracism Committee— all while completing her duties as Research Instruction Librarian. 

Caitlin Schirmer, is a current Geneseo senior studying Biology with a minor in Human Development.  She joined club rugby her freshman year, having never played before, and is now the backs captain for the New York State Division III champion team. Schirmer remembers how “it was really intimidating at first, like not knowing anything about rugby, but then…the environment was so good that I felt really comfortable, like learning and staying.”

Freshmen Dave Dreyer, history and adolescence education major, and Ivan Jesus, biochemistry major, are co-presidents of the Karaoke Club on campus. This is a club where people can sing karaoke-style to their heart’s content and participate in contests to win modest sums of money. It’s hosted at 8 pm almost every Wednesday. The creation story of Karaoke Club is as simple as it is interesting. During this, Jesus recounts, “Basically, we were going to YoBerry Frozen Yogurt and we came to the MCC (Multicultural Center) to play Fortnite on the PS5 until David found a”—Dreyer interrupts to fill in the blank—“Microphone.”

Have you seen fun upcoming events such as Fright Fest and tarot card reading? These events are all thanks to the Geneseo Campus Activities Board (GCAB), which is funded by mandatory student activity fees. The executive board is currently all female, and among the members is Sophia Sabatino, a senior communication major from Long Island, New York. Sabatino joined GCAB during her junior year as the Concert Coordinator and now serves as the GCAB chair.

Orquidia Geraldino is a senior political science major who serves as the Student Association President for the 2024-2025 academic year and a College Council member. Throughout Geraldino’s academic career at Geneseo, she has always prioritized staying involved on campus. Her previous roles on campus also include being a Resident Assistant (RA), on search committees, and the Caribbean Student Association president. 

Grayson Alkins is the bright new star of Geneseo’s famed Orchard Street. Stationed between two frats sits his small but mighty food cart, iconically known as “Gman Hots.” It is there where he feeds the hordes of tired college students looking to feast on anything they can get their hands on.

Clifton Harcum is the interim Chief Diversity Officer, as well as the Director of Multicultural Affairs at SUNY Geneseo. Harcum has been in his position at the college since June of 2023, joining soon after establishing the Multicultural Center in 2022. When asked about his role in the Geneseo community, Harcum states that his role is to “advocate and support students from underrepresented communities” as well as “supporting BIPOC and underrepresented faculty and staff.”

Zahoor Raza is a business administration major who has attended SUNY Geneseo over the past two semesters through an international studies partnership hosted by his university in Karachi, Pakistan. Raza has truly been making the most of his time on campus, being involved with copious clubs and extracurriculars such as Model UN, The Lamron, Society for Human Resource Management, and the National Society of Success and Leadership. On top of this, he is a frequent contributor to The Friday Times, a notable, independent Pakistani newspaper, publishing since 1989.

Over the past two and a half years, The Lamron has been lucky enough to find itself as one of the many organizations in which senior English literature major and communication and political science double minor Nevaeh Tucker has taken up a leadership role while at SUNY Geneseo. With Tucker’s graduation less than a month away now, it is only fitting that we send her off into the real world by first celebrating her time at the college.

Kaitlin “Kate” Anzalone, a senior sociomedical studies and communication double major with a minor in human development, has spent the past year serving as The Lamron’s mighty captain—otherwise known as Editor-in-Chief (EIC). Originally hailing from Fredonia, the SUNY Geneseo campus has been fortunate enough to serve as her home for the last four years. During this time, Kate has worn many hats across campus as the president and founder of the Disabled Student Alliance since spring 2023 (which just won an award for ‘Best Emerging Club’ this semester) and as a loyal Lamron member since her freshman year, having served as a staff writer, assistant opinion editor, and opinion editor before becoming EIC.

Mia Donaldson is a senior English literature and American studies major with a minor in political science who currently serves as editor-in-chief for Iris Magazine, SUNY Geneseo’s first and only queer literary magazine. She is very involved on campus within the English department, serving as a student voice in meetings and when considering potential new faculty. We here at The Lamron were fortunate enough to have her among our ranks as a member of the e-board during her sophomore and junior years, as well as the first semester her senior year. Due to general busyness, she did step down from her position as copy editor this semester, but we still felt drawn to include her in our interview series involving graduating e-board members—we hope you will allow for this discrepancy. 

Nathan Hubbard is a communication major who has served as sports editor of The Lamron for the past year. Despite coming into his role with the newspaper hesitantly and at the behest of his roommate, Hubbard has become one of The Lamron’s strongest supporters since he first joined in the fall semester of 2022. With his graduation quickly approaching, it is only fitting that Hubbard be given the “senior treatment” and opportunity to express his story at SUNY Geneseo.
