The upcoming winter months can feel dreary and lonely, but Rose the therapy dog is here to provide some smiles, comfort, and companionship! Rose is a happy, cuddly, fun-loving four year old golden retriever who frequents Geneseo. Her handler, Faeeza Masood, is a senior counselor at Geneseo’s Lauderdale Health Center, and told The Lamron about how she got Rose to follow in her footsteps of doing counseling work after realizing just how much Rose loved making new friends.

Now, Rose is a certified therapy dog and loves her job! Rose holds her office hours every Friday in Lauderdale Health Center room 209 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. If you love dogs, and are looking for a way to take some stress off your mind, or you are just up for a hug from Rose, she will be excited to greet you.

Rose is always happy to get visits from Geneseo students and loves to give cuddles. She will quickly wag her tail in excitement when someone comes to say hello and then curl up at her new friend’s feet—that is, if she isn’t already too comfortable on her favorite couch. No matter where Rose decides to lay, she is always happy to provide some love and enjoys getting pets and hugs while getting to know her new friends.

Spending some quality time with Rose is truly therapeutic. Her fur is incredibly soft and soothing, so much so that you may find yourself laying on the floor or under a table to pet her, if that is where Rose has decided she is comfortable! As well as being an excellent therapy dog, Rose is also always hard at work testing new napping spots—on couches, under tables, at people's feet, in just about any corner she can nestle herself into.

When she is not in Lauderdale making others smile, she can be found at home making Faeeza smile. Faeeza says Rose is always cuddly and joyful, and remains right next to her no matter what she is doing, even accompanying her on most trips out of the house. Rose’s favorite hobby—outside of naps, cuddling, and making others smile—is going for hikes. As the winter months arrive and it gets too cold outside for long hikes, especially for her sensitive paws, Rose will be particularly excited to come to work on the Geneseo campus, staying inside and getting comfy with students. Her long, soft fur is the perfect way to bring some coziness into your afternoons, and what better way to end the week than with some companionship from an adorable and sweet golden retriever? Rose always makes sure to keep her own soft blanket during her counseling office hours to make herself comfortable as she brightens students’ days.

During her interview with The Lamron, Faeeza explained that she got into counseling work because her main aspiration was to help people. This has been very rewarding, as she loves the connections she has been able to make. Given that she also truly cares about making people smile and making new connections, Faeeza says that Rose is a perfect fit for her. She is happiest when she’s with her human friends and when she is told she is doing a good job. If you’re looking to find a new furry friend, come visit Faeeza and Rose at Lauderdale Fridays at 1 p.m.!
