Peace Action’s participation in No Kings 2.0
On June 14, 2025 Americans across the country gathered to participate in protests that are now famously known as the No Kings Day protest series. The protests occurred on President Trump’s birthday and proclaimed that America has no kings, dictators, or tyrants. In light of recent political events, this series of protests is being held once again across the country, appropriately named No Kings 2.0.
Peace Action at Geneseo did not get the chance to host one of these protests in June, as school was not in session, but now the club is collaborating with Genesee Valley Citizens for Peace (GVCP) on Oct. 18, 2025 to host a No Kings 2.0 protest, joining in a nationwide day of defiance. The event will take place at the Veterans Memorial Park, located at the end of Main Street.
Peace Action often hosts peaceful protests at this location, including this semester's Sun Day rally just a few weeks ago, as it provides a visible yet safe location for large amounts of people to gather. All attendees are asked kindly to stay on the sidewalk and surrounding grassy areas, as the road is frequently busy with cars and poses risks to participants.
Peace Action has been planning this large event for many weeks and recently began hanging posters in approved places on campus, inviting students to take part in this day. Unfortunately, after just a few days most of these posters had been torn down and thrown away, leading club members to work twice as hard to spread the word.
Peace Action at Geneseo is open to all students regardless of political affiliation. The club welcomes all students who can be respectful towards others and hold mature conversations about relevant issues. Seeing this respect not reciprocated across campus disappointed a few of the executive board members, myself included, as the club is founded on the basis of peace and cooperation.
The peaceful protest and march being held will include group music with song and chant packets provided. Those who would not like to march are encouraged to stay at the park while others march up and down Main Street—doing so in a peaceful manner.
The last protest that Peace Action held brought in approximately 40 people, while this protest is expected to bring, at minimum, five times that amount. In preparation, the club turned their weekly meeting into an opportunity to educate students on peaceful protests and how to partake in them in a respectful manner. Their meetings take place on Tuesdays in Bailey 101 at 6:15pm.
Many of the executive board members of Peace Action have been trained as Peace Marshals because of the large attendance in previous protests. The board is made up of only four members, making collaborations with other organizations for protests necessary to ensure the safety of all attendees, especially students.
In light of recent events on campus and in the general political climate, misinformation is in abundance. Misinformation can easily spread on college campuses on platforms such as YikYak, it is increasingly important to fact check things that you hear and listen to reliable sources of information.
Any questions about this protest or about club meetings can be directed to the club’s email at peace@geneseo.edu or can be sent to the Instagram account @peaceactiongeneseo. The club welcomes any questions big or small, and encourages all to attend the weekly club meetings.
