Geneseo’s Career Design Center launched the Student Gig Work Showcase at the beginning of this semester. This showcase allows Geneseo students to promote their self-made businesses. The first featured student was Lilliann Freytes, a nail artist who owns the business hausoflillii. The Lamron sat down with Lilli to learn more about the face behind the business.
Lilli is a junior business administration major with a minor in entrepreneurship from Manhattan, New York, and she is quite the busy bee on campus. Lilli is the president of her sorority, Omega Phi Beta; a member of GCAB; a Title IX office intern; and a College Union employee. Outside of her coursework and her extracurricular activities, Lilli runs her nail business, hausoflillii, right here in Geneseo.
Lilli began her nail art journey in 2021. When asked how she got into nail art, Lilli shared, “I liked to paint and wanted to do crazy designs on my hands.” With five years of experience, she has developed into a seasoned professional who can cater to a wide range of services, offering anything from acrylics, gel x, builder gels, gel manicures, to even custom press-ons. Her personal favorite designs to create are French tips or the trending tortoise shell design.
Since she has a minor in entrepreneurship, The Lamron asked Lilli if it has helped her with her nail business. In answer, she expressed her gratitude toward professor Mark Rider, the VanArsdale Chair of Entrepreneurship, who has helped her develop the skills required to run a business. She recommends anyone interested in starting a business to take a class with him.
In her free time, Lilli enjoys reading poems, listening to music, watching new movies, and going for bike rides. Lilli shared that she starts off her day by listening to the song “Show Me Love” by Robin S. She sits down to do her skincare routine every morning, and that song gets her grooving and ready to conquer the day.
Lily recounts her favorite memory of Geneseo and highlights GCAB or GLK events, stating, “not to be biased—hint hint, wink wink! But seriously, GCAB’s Halloween week from last fall was great. I planned the henna, face paint, make-your-own-pillow, make-your-own-coaster, and goodie bag making events.”
One of Lilli’s favorite parts about Geneseo is the college green. On what feel like rare sunny, warm days, Lilli likes to listen to music, blow bubbles, and color in her coloring book out on the green.
The Lamron also asked Lilli what her last meal would be. After taking some time to ponder this very important question, Lilli described this as her last meal: “A sushi boat, with lots of spicy tuna rolls, boba from Taichi, chocolate-covered pretzels, a cinnamon roll from Sweet Arts Bakery, and an order of rolls from Texas Roadhouse, but not with the cinnamon butter.”
As this semester wraps up, Lilli is thinking about her plans for the summer. She plans to stay in Geneseo and has already secured a job at a credit union up in Rochester. She also hopes to go on a vacation at some point as well.
Lilli will be entering her senior year in the fall. Once she graduates, she intends to go to graduate school to obtain her master’s degree in business administration. Luckily for us, Lilli will still grace Geneseo's campus for another year, meaning that students who are interested in getting their nails done still have time to book with Lilli. Lilli is welcoming, encouraging, and open for bookings, just in time for graduation picture season. Whether you are looking for something as simple as a gel manicure or acrylics with a trendy nail art design, Lilli can help you out. To schedule an appointment, all you need to do is send her a message through her instagram page @hausoflillii. Do yourself a favor and book an appointment!
