Geneseo Multicultural Center and Events

The multicultural center located across from Frazer, stop by whenever you have the time!
The Multicultural Center at Geneseo is one of the best spots on campus. The room has great study spots, comfortable seating, and a wide range of entertainment including music, video games, karaoke, ping pong, and more! It is a great place to relax and hang out with friends or even chill between classes and get some work done. All students are welcome and encouraged to come check out the center! Located in Blake Hall, they are open from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day.
I was able to speak to some students who visit the Multicultural Center often and they explained why they love it so much. Daniel and Dashiell are both juniors who have been visiting the center regularly since their freshman year. Both agreed that thanks to its location, it’s a nice place to meet new people; being between the dining halls, residence buildings, and the academic buildings, the center is a hub for all types of students to exist and be comfortable being themselves.
The two have many positive experiences tied to the Multicultural Center, and it’s one of their favorite spots on campus. Daniel told me how it helped him in his freshman year, saying, “it really helped me in my freshman year to meet new people, the location itself, I mean I met so many people through [it] my freshman year. I still have a lot of good friends I met here to this day. So yeah, I feel like that really helped me a lot.” With the center hosting so many events, Daniel told me that he likes how if you’re there just to hang out, you can “just pop right into the event[s] since it’s right here.” Dashiell mentioned that “it’s also pretty quiet on weekends, so it’s a nice place to study.” Whether you are looking to find new friends, get some homework done, or just hang out, the center is always open—besides when they are closed, of course!
Home to the Multicultural Affairs group on campus, the Multicultural Center hosts a wide range of club activities both inside and outside of the center since the space is open to everyone. The semester has just started and they have already hosted the Annual Multicultural Picnic, a Hispanic Heritage Month panel, and even a pool party! I was able to attend the pool party on Sept. 18, and it was amazing to see the turnout. So many people from a wide range of backgrounds came to enjoy the music, games, vibes, and of course, the swimming!
While some events have already come and gone, there is plenty to look forward to. Today, Friday, Sept. 25, there will be a Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. There will be food, music, and new friends! Feel free to stop by to learn or immerse yourself in Hispanic and Latino culture. On Sunday, Sept. 27, students will be white water rafting in collaboration with Jefferson Community College. Seating was limited and is unfortunately full, but there will be plenty of other opportunities just like this one later in the year! If you’re interested, just keep an eye out. Many students who have never had the chance to go out and challenge nature before are now able to thanks to the Multicultural Center.
Other upcoming events through Multicultural Affairs include their Halloween Social Event. There has not been much information shared yet, but it is going to take place on Oct. 23 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. They also already have an event scheduled for November as well; Rooted in Gratitude will run from Monday, Nov. 9 through Friday, Nov. 13. At this event, students are able to stop by the Painted Tree and paint something they are grateful for. Paint something that brings you happiness, comfort, or joy! Connect with other students and nature as you participate in a school tradition!
