Students were able to snag cute merch during GCAB's annual Fall Fest.
Many have been patiently waiting for the Geneseo Campus Activity Board (GCAB) to host their biggest fall semester event, fittingly named Fall Fest. Sometimes nicknamed “baby springfest,” this event is similar to the annual Spring Fest, but GCAB members enjoy doing something different with Fall Fest each year to keep students engaged. This year, the event included live music from both student and local bands, Geneseo acapella groups, as well as free merch, a variety of crafts, and free food to top it all off.
The event started at 4 p.m. and went until 7 p.m. in the MacVittie Union Ballroom. Geneseo students could choose from either a free crewneck or t-shirt, both of which were designed by GCAB members. The merchandise lasted almost through the entirety of the event, allowing students to get merchandise even if they were arriving late.
The first live music performance featured Clambo, a brand new Geneseo student band, followed by a performance from Courtyard, which is a band composed of students from the Rochester Institute of Technology. With a mix of covers and original songs, these live bands pulled Geneseo students into the ballroom and drew attention with their musical talent. After these band performances, students could listen to a cappella performances from the Southside Boys, Exit 8, Between the Lines, and Emmelodics.
While students were listening to live music and enjoying their new merchandise, they could sit at a table and decorate a fairy light jar with paint and stickers. Another craft available at the table were scrapbook pages. With a variety of colors and craft supplies, students could get their polaroid taken and create a memorable page with the photo to take home with them. Alongside polaroids, students could also visit a photo booth in the MacVittie College Union Ballroom Lounge. With fun lighting and a variety of props, it was the perfect opportunity for students to get fun photo strips to remember the day.
For those not interested in crafting, there was also an interactive game to play. A massive football blow-up offered two different games for attendees to play and a chance to win a football prize! After burning off some energy throwing footballs, students could visit the food corner and fuel up.
Options included a french fry bar catered by Campus Auxiliary Services (CAS) with toppings like ketchup, cheese, and bacon. For those with a sweet tooth, there was also freshly popped popcorn, caramel apples, and churro bites. There was also fresh-made cotton candy which quickly became a fan favorite and provided some nostalgia for many students.
Students were certainly enjoying themselves, exclaiming, “I didn’t know this much stuff could fit into the Union,” and even saying, “I could stay here all day long!” GCAB loves to hear feedback from students, both positive and constructive. If you attended the event and have any feedback you would like to share, please email gcab@geneseo.edu or reach out via Instagram @geneseocab.
For those who missed the event, be sure to follow the Instagram to stay up to date on what events are happening and see what GCAB is doing next. While Spring Fest is their largest event, there will be countless others before then that will also be completely free to Geneseo students!
