What is Knights of Guinevere (2025- )?
In the past couple of years, independent animation has seen a significant rise in popularity, and who could be surprised? They offer compelling and original stories in a world where the only thing the major studios are putting out is spinoff after sequel after remake.
This makes it all the more exciting that this month, Glitch Productions is coming out with a brand new animated series known as Knights of Guinevere (2025- ), with the pilot of the show premiering on Sept. 19, 2025. It will be available on YouTube. It is currently unknown when the rest of the episodes are scheduled to release, but it may be quite the wait, given that most indie shows have long gaps in between episodes.
Only limited information about the plot has been released, but everything we know so far promises an exciting and intriguing story. Knights of Guinevere (2025- ) will be a psychological thriller set in a futuristic world, on a separate planet that functions as an amusement park.
The trailer shows that the series will be in 2D animation (a first for Glitch Productions!), showcasing a world that is a mesmerizing mix of magical and mechanical. Beautiful landscapes covered with graffiti and the fantastical moments that resemble your classic fairy tale that suddenly flash to the horrors of a decaying robotic corpse.
The cast includes an android princess named Gwen, played by Eden Riegel, who is trapped in a tower, like many princesses are. It’s possible that Gwen was also under some science-fiction twist of a sleeping curse, as Glitch made an Instagram post telling of “a princess who dreamed of pain too heavy to wake up from.” The same post gives a bit of information about the characters who are likely to be protagonists alongside Gwen. One of them is Frankie, played by Michaela Laws, who hopes to make friends. The other is Andi, played by Zelda Khan Black. The post is slightly more vague about Andi, depicting the character next to a rocket ship and mentioning some desire for flight. This can be interpreted in many ways, but most striking to me is that Andi is an inventor who wants to make a rocket, or maybe hopes to fly away and escape something impending yet unknown.
The rest of the cast includes Erin Nicole Lundquist and Lauren Kong playing old and young versions of the character Olivia Park, Kayleigh McKee as Sparky, and SungWon Cho as Orville Park. Many may recognize SungWon Cho as Abs Saja from the recent hit, KPop Demon Hunters (2025).
Orville Park is likely to be the villain of the series, judging by a scene of him easily entering the tower where Gwen is imprisoned. Many fans have noticed Park’s striking resemblance to Walt Disney. This detail, along with their fairytale and theme park premise, has led to whispers that Knights of Guinevere (2025- ) may be a criticism of the Disney corporation.
This wouldn’t be a surprise, given that one of the show's head creators is Dana Terrace. Dana Terrace is known for creating a Disney Channel series known as The Owl House (2020-2023). While working for Disney, Terrace openly criticized the company for their support of Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay Bill” in 2022.
On Mar. 7, 2022, she posted on Twitter, “I’m so…tired of making Disney look good…” so, perhaps she is hoping to accomplish just the opposite with this new project. This is complemented by the fact that the other creators include John Bailey Owen and Zach Marcus, both of whom also wrote for The Owl House (2020-2023). Needless to say, fans of The Owl House (2020-2023) will probably find a similar style in Knights of Guinevere (2025- ).
Glitch Productions is one of the most prominent studios in the independent animation world. They have created an array of wonderful shows, the most popular of which are Murder Drones (2021-2024) and The Amazing Digital Circus (2023- ). As a result of gaining such a large fan base, both were picked up by larger streaming companies, including Amazon Prime and Netflix, respectively. Murder Drones (2021-2024) ultimately won the Video Animation section in the 2024 Webby Awards.
With such an incredible team of cast, crew, and producers, Knights of Guinevere (2025- ) is sure to be an exciting ride! If you were a fan of any of the shows this team made, a fan of fantasy or science fiction, or the plot simply caught your interest, make sure to watch the pilot on YouTube on Sept. 19, 2025.
