Taylor Swift finally completes her “Love Story”
This August for pop star Taylor Swift, there was more than “salt air” she sings about in her song titled August. On Aug. 26, 2025, she acknowledged this love in the air and announced her engagement to Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce. She took to Instagram to post her engagement photos, filled with breathtaking florals, and of course, an up-close look at her engagement ring—an eight-carat diamond ring, far from the “Paper Rings” that the songwriter sang about in her 2019 album.
Swift posted the photos of her and Kelce hugging and celebrating their engagement with the caption: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” followed by a firecracker emoji, which many fans suspected to be a reference to their couple name, TNT. In 2024, the NFL star gifted Swift a custom gold bracelet with their nickname, TNT, written in diamonds.
From friendship bracelets to diamond jewelry to an engagement ring, the couple’s “Love Story” has captured the hearts of fans. Swift’s Instagram caption also seems to contain an allusion to a song lyric she wrote about Kelce on her 2024 album, The Tortured Poets Department; in the song “So High School,” Swift cheekily refers to Kelce, “You know how to ball, I know Aristotle.”
The beautiful scene where their engagement photos were taken displayed a gazebo and garden trail with elaborately placed, blooming flowers in shades of pink. This was more than a “rose garden filled with thorns” for Swift; Travis Kelce proposed to her in the backyard of his own home in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Ed Kelce, the father of the newly engaged NFL star, revealed to a Cleveland news reporter that Travis Kelce popped the question to Swift before going out for dinner.
He told the reporter that he told his son to propose to her soon, as he could tell the pair were “crazy about each other.” The popular Kansas City Chiefs player allowed no time for any “Bad Blood” to stir up between the two, as Swift knows about ending relationships “All Too Well.” Thankfully, she said yes, and she can finally say she found the “End Game” that she sings about on her popular album, Reputation (2017).
To date, Swift and Kelce’s engagement post has over 37 million likes on Instagram. In the photos, the singer can be seen wearing a Ralph Lauren black and white striped dress, which quickly sold out online. Kelce was also on-theme in a black Ralph Lauren polo shirt. The engagement post came only two weeks after Swift appeared on her then-boyfriend’s podcast, New Heights.
That episode, which was released on Aug. 13, 2025 —of course, as fans immediately connected the date to Swift’s lucky number, 13— contained conversations between her, Kelce, and his brother. Fans got excited about the release of the Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter’s upcoming album, The Life of a Showgirl (2025), which she promoted on the podcast. And shortly afterward, the popstar gave fans something else to be excited about in the meantime: the fact that she has found her relationship to fulfill “The Prophecy,” as she sang about on The Tortured Poets Department (2024) album track with the same title.
Although fans don’t yet know the date of the wedding, they can assume there will be no more “Cruel Summer[s]” for their favorite artist, as she has found her happily ever after. In the meantime, Swift’s new album, The Life of a Showgirl, is set to be released on Oct. 3, 2025.
