This summer promises plenty of exciting TV, with the return of fan favorites and new book-to-screen adaptations.
With the recent release of the series finale of You (2018–2025), the seventh season of Black Mirror (2011– ), and the second season of The Last of Us (2023– ), it is safe to say that the hunger for new TV has been satiated this spring season.
I hope you saved room for even more excitement, however, as the summer of 2025 promises new and continuations of popular shows that are sure to cure you from that school-break boredom many fall victim to. In case you missed the announcements and trailers— here are some upcoming shows to look out for.
Ginny and Georgia (2021– ): Season three
Everyone boasts about how they find this show “cringy” and “bad,” but I always catch them online, actively engaged when a new season drops. I think it is fair to say Ginny and Georgia (2021– ) is the show everyone hates to love.
While some find the implementation of Gen-Z humor unnatural and intrusive, I think the cringe this show implements makes for an endearing watch. Even if some of it stems from irony, my enjoyment is certainly there when watching— and I cannot deny, I am hooked on Georgia’s plotline.
The season three trailer premiered nearly two weeks ago and hints towards a dramatic and exciting season! Fans can expect it to drop on Netflix on June 5, 2025.
The Summer I Turned Pretty (2022– ): Season three
This Amazon Prime Video original is a must-watch if you are looking for a show with immaculate summer vibes! Although I have never read the books, the feel-good, light energy of the story is incredibly immersive; I feel like I live in that beach house with all the characters!
Objectively, the show is a bit juvenile with its “trope-y” love triangle and high school characters. It also has modern TikTok language and meme culture embedded in the script, but akin to Ginny and Georgia (2021– ), it is strangely endearing, if not addictive. Watching this with friends after a day in the pool or on the beach will certainly be the highlight of my summer.
The teaser for season three offers a glimpse into the fun and angsty moments viewers can expect. As if July needed another reason to be the best month of the year, fans can look forward to the season premiere on July 16, 2025.
Squid Game (2021–2025): Season three
Those who know me know I adore horror in all of its forms. Despite its mainstream popularity, this Korean Drama is no less horrifying than the stuff on the Western big screens. Snow, rain, or shine, I am always down for a survivor thriller; fans can be ready to spend their hot summer nights with nails between their teeth.
I’m especially glad to not have much of a wait for season three; the previous season felt more like half of a story arc than a completed one. My brain yearns for a conclusion, and I can confidently say my personal biases make me most excited for this premiere on June 27, 2025.
We Were Liars (2025)
We Were Liars (2025), based on E. Lockhart’s novel, will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on June 18, 2025. The book is a psychological horror with a mystery aspect: the main character, Candece, who spends every summer on her family’s private island, cannot remember anything from her recent trip after suffering a head injury.
I have never read this book, but I have heard about it for the longest time. While it may have mixed reviews, the concept sounds like this show combines my adoration for summer with my love of horror. People tend to criticize book adaptations, but as a fan of shows like The Summer I Turned Pretty (2022– ) and Little Fires Everywhere (2020), I have faith that a live adaptation can elevate the story.
If I was not already ecstatic for beach days and tanning chairs, the summer 2025 TV show lineup has saved me from scouring streaming services in desperation to find something new. Fans of these shows should certainly save these dates and plan their summer trips accordingly!
