12 film releases to look forward to in 2026

  1. Project Hail Mary (2026)

This science fiction, adventure-packed film directed and produced by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, starring Ryan Gosling, Phil Lord, and Amy Pascal, follows Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling), a science teacher who wakes up in space with no recollection of how or why  he is there. During his journey discovering his purpose in space, he encounters an improbable pal. The film is based on a popular sci-fi 2021 novel by co-producer Andy Weir, which shares the title.

  1. The Drama (2026)

Disguised as an innocent romantic comedy the A24 film, directed by Kristoffer Borgli and featuring Robert Pattinson and Zendaya, follows a happily engaged couple—until everything gets turned upside down with the reveal of a dark secret, making the lead-up to the couple's wedding full of drama.

  1. Michael (2026)

Director Antoine Fuqua brings the King of Pop to the big screens. The biopic film follows the life story of beloved musician and star, Michael Jackson. The cast consists of Jaafar Jackson (Michael Jackson’s nephew), Juliano Valdi, and Colman Domingo.

  1. The Devil Wears Prada 2 (2006)

This spring, the beloved film, The Devil Wears Prada (2006), returns to theatres with a sequel. Many of the same primary cast members, such as Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Stanley Tucci, and Emily Blunt, will be returning to reprise their roles. According to Variety, the plot reportedly “follows Priestly as she navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing and as she faces off against Blunt’s character, now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs.”

  1. Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026)

The beloved Star Wars universe expands once again with TheMandalorian and Grogu (2026), bringing the hit Disney+ series to the big screen. Directed by Jon Favreau, the film follows Din Djarin and Grogu as they embark on a new galactic adventure beyond the events of the television series. With Pedro Pascal returning and a devoted global fanbase, the film marks the first major Star Wars theatrical release in several years, making it one of the franchise's most anticipated cinematic returns.

  1. Disclosure Day (2026)

Legendary director Steven Spielberg returns to theatres this summer. While the plot details remain largely under wraps, the project is expected to blend science fiction elements. With a strong ensemble cast featuring Emily Blunt, Josh O’Conner, Colin Firth, and Colman Domingo, and one of Hollywood’s most influential directors at the helm, the film is already shaping up to be a major summer release.

  1. The Odyssey (2026)

Acclaimed director Christopher Nolan takes on one of the oldest and most cherished tales in literature with The Odyssey (2026). Based on Homer’s ancient Greek poem, the film follows the long journey of Odysseus as he attempts to return home following the Trojan War. Known for his large-scale practical filmmaking and immersive and intense storytelling, Nolan’s adaptation is expected to deliver a visually stunning and ambitious interpretation of the classic story, making it one of the most highly discussed films of the year.

  1. Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026)

Marvel’s iconic Spider-Man returns to the theatres with Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026). The latest installment of the Spider-Man franchise continues Peter Parker's story following the events of the previous Marvel Cinematic Universe films. With Tom Holland expected to reprise his role, the film is set to explore a new chapter for the character while including new challenges and villains. Not much is known about the plot beyond its Spider-Man facing “the repercussions of his past” according to an article in Screenrant.

  1. The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (2026)

The word of Panem returns in  a Hunger Games prequel exploring the early days of the deadly games, centering on Haymitch Abernathy’s experience as a 16-year-old tribute. Based on Suzanne Collins’s novel with the same name, the film offers deeper insight into the political and social foundations of Panem.

  1. Avengers: Doomsday (2026)

Marvel Studios assembles its heroes once again in the next major crossover event in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While specific plot details remain tightly guarded, the film is expected to bring together familiar characters and introduce new treats that could reshape the future of the franchise. As one of Marvel's biggest releases in years, the film is already positioned as a major cinematic event.

  1. Dune: Part Three (2026)

Following the release of the previous Dune films, director Denis Villeneuve continues the saga with Dune: Part Three(2026). Adapted from Frank Herbert’s novel, the film continues Paul Atreides’s journey as emperor and explores both political and personal consequences of his rise to power. With returning cast members and an expansive sci-fi world already established, the third film is expected to build upon the franchise's critical and commercial success.

  1. Werwulf (2026)

Closing out the year is Werwulf (2026), a dark gothic fantasy horror film directed by Robert Eggers. Eggers bring a new interpretation of classic werewolf mythology to the screen. With a distinctive visual style and growing anticipation among horror fans, the film offers a unique addition to the 2026 holiday season.
