Glitch Productions loads a new Gameoverse (2026- )

In recent years, indie animation has had a massive surge in popularity. Indie animation, loosely, is basically any animated project that is first created by smaller studios without the influence of an entertainment industry giant such as Disney or Universal. Most of the time, these projects are posted on YouTube, where they may be lucky enough to receive a dedicated fanbase, which may convince a bigger streaming service to pick them up.

Without question, the independent animation studio Glitch Productions has become one of the most successful of these studios. They have made multiple hit shows, the most famous of which being The Amazing Digital Circus (2023- ), which was quickly picked up by Netflix, although each of the episodes still release on YouTube for free. Glitch Productions’ latest show, Knights of Guinevere (2025- ) was just recently confirmed to have been greenlit after an absolutely stunning pilot.

The latest of Glitch Productions’ shows has just been announced. Last month, a trailer dropped for the show Gameoverse (2026- ). The trailer depicted a 2D-animated, action-packed adventure that seems to center around the concept of video game characters being able to crossover to each other's worlds—or more accurately, quickly jump into a different world before their own is destroyed. The trailer seems to open on an innocent kids’ game, where dinosaur characters can teach you how to spell and talk about the importance of reading. It suddenly takes a dark turn when the characters apparently win the game, which seems to cause the universe to self-destruct. Multiple characters die from the on-screen text falling on them, with only one of the dinosaurs being quickly saved by a very out-of-place character and our presumed main character, Kit, who is some sort of mechanized, anthropomorphic cat. The rest of the trailer goes on to show a host of different characters who are clearly from very different worlds, but are somehow all interacting.

On Glitch’s website, the official synopsis of Gameoverse (2026) notes that the only way to save these different video game worlds from collapsing is to aid the villains in defeating the heroes. This description, paired with the fact that the game started collapsing in the trailer only after the characters apparently won, paints a dark picture. In playing most video games, the game is over after the objective is completed. There is nothing left to do after the player has won. Many people think that this is the storyline Gameoverse (2026) will follow, a need to aid the bad guys to ensure the game is never finished. Although the series promises to be a comedy, a storyline like this would allow for absolutely fascinating messages and undertones about morality, and about what good and evil truly means.

Interestingly, Gameoverse (2026) is not originally a show by Glitch Productions. The first episode aired over a decade ago on Dec. 18, 2013 and can still be found on the YouTube channel RubberNinja. It was originally created by the owner of this channel, Ross O’Donovan, better known as RubberRoss. According to an article in Animation Magazine, O’Donovan has actually been in contact with the co-founders of Glitch Productions Kevin and Luke Lerdwichagul for a while, but the only thing holding back the deal was that O’Donovan wanted Gameoverse (2026) to be a 2D animated series, while Glitch was known for 3D animation. Now that Glitch is willing to do a 2D series, possibly thanks to Knights of Guinevere (2025- ), the deal seems to be full steam ahead.

While O’Donovan is still largely the creator of the show, the series has obviously had a massive glow-up in just about every aspect. The original series, of which there were only four episodes that were less than seven minutes long, featured low-quality animation and a seemingly much simpler plot. Kit was nowhere to be found. In fact, the only characters that seem to have managed to make their way over to the new series include Gobbles, the dinosaur from the learning game, and a dolphin character named Flappers, who despite being a main character of the original series, only makes a brief appearance in the trailer.

A whole host of new characters seems to have been created for the series as well. Of course, there is Kit, played by Erica Lindbeck, who many may recognize as the voice actress of Loona from Helluva Boss (2019- ). Kit appears to be the new main character that seems to be the one traveling between the video game worlds and attempting to save the characters from destruction. She is aided by a partner, Kaboodle, who seems to be some sort of robot that doubles as some form of equipment as well as a sentient ally. He is voiced by Jschlatt, a well-known YouTuber. As revealed by the trailer, Kaboodle will be kidnapped at some point in the series, so a rescue attempt will become a plot point somewhere in the series. While many other characters will appear, we do not yet have much information about them.

Gameoverse (2026) will premiere this year, in May of 2026 after over a decade in the making. We get the privilege of watching a dream actualized, and it looks like it is going to be a fantastic ride!
