According to this year's senior gift coordinator, senior Rachel Swift, the class of 2009 is expected to make a positive impact on the campus they will leave next May.
"We're benefiting so much from our experience now," Swift said. "We should want to give back and leave a legacy." Swift is in charge of fundraising for the annual senior gift, part of the Fund for Geneseo.
According to Swift, money raised from the senior gift will then be given in scholarships to underclassmen who demonstrate the importance of giving back to the college. Additional funds will go into the annual fund, which benefits student organizations around campus.
Swift first got involved with the campaign after meeting others who benefited from the scholarships.
"Senior gift was built 22 years ago to facilitate a relationship between seniors and their soon-to-be alma mater," said Swift. The campaign goal for this year is $10,000.
"By donating to the senior gift, you're giving to students under you," said Gina Scalise, assistant director for the Fund for Geneseo. "It's a continual process of getting and giving back." Scalise oversees the senior gift and Phonathon, a program that encourages alumni donations to the school.
Swift said that she hopes to raise funds through various events including a Pizza Hut night, free cider and doughnuts outside of Erwin hall, and senior class happy hours.
