A "Mardi Gras Masquerade" was held at Red Jacket on Feb. 17. This three-hour long event was coordinated by Resident Assistants Jennifer McNulty and Sara Gehring and the hall councils of Wayne and Suffolk. It was co-sponsored by Geneseo LateKnight.

Red Jacket went from an ordinary dining hall to a Mardi Gras extravaganza, decorated with streamers, glitzy masks, and balloons. People who attended the event were handed festive necklaces and there was Cajun food such as dirty rice, king cakes, and gumbo. To accompany the meal, many activities were held. People could make necklaces, masks and jester hats, all while listening to the jazz music of New Orleans. DVDs, iTunes gift cards, and a digital camera were raffled off as well.

The turnout was small, but the event was successful. Sophomore Andrea Mason said, "It was very fun, and the food was great." Chris Rinere, a junior, added, "It was a lot of fun making cool masks." McNulty and Gehring were also pleased with the results. "This event was a way to celebrate Mardi Gras safely," Gehring said. "I was glad to see everyone participating."
